139 Preakness Stakes and Under card

Good Morning to the few that follow!

I was looking at the under card and the Preakness and I noticed that there is a significant presents of Turf races leading up to the main event. After reading some articles on how Pimlico drains, I am good understanding that the track will be playing fast, however, the turf will be moist and extremely soft due to the rain on Thursday and Friday. That said, be weary of the "for sure" bets on the turf on the under card because Pimlico turf course does not drain well.

Preakness overview:

California Chrome is once again looking like he is the one to beat! We need to pay homage to this horse because of the dominating performances he has had against the cream of the crop of his generation. This horse is the real deal and to think that his father never won a race past 5 1/2 furlongs and his mothers only win was at a mile and 70 yards in her maiden. This horse is a true FREAK of nature and is going to see a lot of action at the windows and is very well deserved.
I also like Social Inclusion to be an upset pick or a solid second if not 3rd this race. Although lightly raced, this horse has came on to the scene as the top horse and proven he can hang with the fractions with Chrome. Horse is very impressive and I like him a lot. Also, I am starting to like Kid Cruz, this horse is a true closer and in my opinion the best closer in the field, better than Ride on Curlin who has a good change in rider with Rosario. Kid Cruz has dominating, Animal Kingdom like closing ability and could have the race play out in his favor. My only concern is that his races have been at slow paces and the pace today will be faster. Check out this stakes race at laurel where he comes from last to first....

I also like Bayern under the training of HOF trainer Bobby Baffert. Bob Baffert is 5 for 14 at the Preakness Stakes. He opts to keep Rosie on board, which they yield a little over 50 % in hitting in the money together. Bayern likes to be in the front but the equipment change to get the blinkers off suggest that Bayern will be with Chrome off the expected fast pace. Ria Antonia is my live longshot here. Why? She is the class of the field and Thomas Amoss is a hot trainer this year. After coming from HOF Bafferts barn, Amoss has this horse working out sensationally and its telling me that this horse is ready. I like him for 3rd or 4th but will get a good price on him.

My plays for today on this race:

Tri box: 2,3,5,7,8
Super keys: pick of the day 1a)3/ 7, 8/ 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10/ ALL......... Heavy Loaded  1B) 3/ 8/ 5, 10,/ 5, 6, 7, 10 (super)

UNDER CARD Plays:

Late Pick 4:
9) 3,5,7,9,10
10) 2,3,6,10
11) 3,4,6,7,9
12) 3,8

Race 13...I have been following horse named Nevesky from Philly Park.. 12-1 morning line.. Maybe a value play there.

Good luck to all!!

Happy Mothers Day Race Fans.. Here's my Belmont stake picks (5/11/2014 (

Good day to you race fans and happy mothers day to the mothers out there.  A very special mothers day to my mother Augie, who is with me right now at a restaurand.

Here are my Belmont picks from a far:

Race 3:

The Pletcher horses should be 1 and 2 with by favorite or bullet being the 4 horse with the 3 second.  I like the way the 1 hose has been working out and Zito might have this horse ready to upset the field.

Races 7-9:

7) 4, 5, 8, 9.... Love the way the 4 has been working.
8) 2, 6, 4.... I'm throwing out the 5 because I think the horse is on a decline.
9) 2, 3, 7....I love the fact the 3 is working out at Payson. Payson has a deep stretch and bodes well for belmont tracks.

Good luck players!

Blake's Magic (Race 7 Santa Anita May 9, 2014)

I watched this horse the past 4 performances. This horse is use to 2nd and 3rd place finishes at Santa Anita. I feel like this horse is due and will get in the winning circle. He like to come off the pace and lets hope the pace isn't too fast for him to not win the race. Non the less, I like this horse to win!

This ones for you BLAKE :)

Who is Larry and why should I follow his picks?

Hi - I'm Larry Pirollo but my friends call me Larry the Handicapper. I have done pretty well for myself up to date with horse racing. I work full time and in my off time I follow the great sport of horse racing.

A little bit about me:

I was an athlete growing up in playing football since I was 6 years old. My career ended at the age of 22, however, football has brought me to places in my life that I would of never of imagined in going. I have reached some success in football in earning All State and All American Honors from the state of Florida and All American Honors from college in Illinois. In saying that, I know how hard it took for training and the work needed to be on the top of my respective sport. I was born in NE Philadelphia, raised in Ventnor, NJ, lived in Orlando for 10 plus years and had short stays in Chicago and Springfield, Ill.

Horse Racing:

I look at horse racing like the game of football; these horses are like athletes. They are regularly worked out similar to football players working out for games. Horses are incredibly competitive and intelligent. Also like football, it is a total team effort for horses to succeed. Why? It starts at the top with the Owners and Breeders; common traits are passion and dedication that the team is equipped with the best tools to make a horse successful. A horse will need a good trainer and stablemates (teammates) to push the horse to its limits in every workout to be at its very best on race day. Lastly, the jockey plays a part in relating to horses, knowing how to maneuver through a race and to push the horse to its limits for the win. I was introduced to horse racing by my Dad and Uncle. I can say that all 3 of us LOVE this sport equally and talk about the ponies on occasion during the course of the week. I am sure they will contribute in some way to this blog and as well as my good friend Dale, who loves horse racing like the 3 of us. So stay tuned!

Handicapping:

By now you know that my love is football, horse racing but there is a 3rd component and that is Business. I am in corp. America and I love numbers and I love to trend. If you really think about it, handicapping is TRENDING. Your trending on a horse progression, how he/she moves during a race on certain distances, times at points in the race, workouts, where the horse likes to race and surfaces. Also I tend to look at percentages and connections. If my trending and calculations are close between a group of horses, the tie breaker to me is the percentages of wins, trainer percentages and bloodlines of a horse. I also watch video on horses past performances because I want to see if a horse has what it takes in effort and drive in his/her kick during the course of a race. So to circle back, I look at these horses like athletes and I watch film on them and lastly I love to trend them.

Results

I have done very well in the past 8 years of doing this. To be clear I DON'T bet everyday nor do I try to. I just love this sport and I pick and choose my spots. I am a stakes handicapper and tend to do very well. Reason is because I like to handicap the BEST horses with good competition throughout the field. The past 5 years, I have hit all the Triple Crown races with a very healthy net earnings.I will encourage all that know me to post testimonials to speak to this.

Goal

I want to keep awareness of this great sport. I've always wanted to get into horse racing in anyway shape or form, however, it is challenging to do so. Every person that I know always have told me to do something like this so here it is! Hopefully we can get a lot of followers to get some recognition and to most importantly MAKE SOME MONEY$$$!!!!
